Candidates laud JAMB on use of eight keys for CBT

Candidates who sat for the just concluded mock examination by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), have commended the examination body for introducing the use of eight keys in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination, saying it was highly efficient and easy to use.

The board, as part of measures to ease the anxiety for CBT mode of the exam, two months ago introduced the concept that allows candidates to use eight function keys to write the examination without a mouse.

However, the candidates have affirmed that JAMB has indeed achieved its aim of trying to make CBT friendly, as the concept was very efficient and effective.

A candidate, Vivian Ibeh, told The Guardian that the concept is a perfect model for CBT exams as it makes the exercise faster and smoother.

Another candidate, Victor Attah, described the eight keys as a model and good innovation, adding, “with this, everybody can write CBT examination without worry and panic that follows mouse sluggishness.”

For Julius Adams, though he is very conversant with the use of computer, and knows how to navigate even the dullest mouse, but the eight keys method, he said, is better.

“I prepared my mind that I will make use of the mouse during the mock examination, but when I tried the function keys, I discovered it is more effectual. Though I prefer using mouse if it is new and very active because it is more familiar to me.”

Another candidate, Victoria Ordia, said though she couldn’t finish her mock examination because of server breakdown, “but I enjoyed the few minutes I used the keys, it is very easy to use. Once you know what you are doing, you issue the command and it responds perfectly. Initiators of the concept did a great job, but they should improve on the Internet services to avoid server failure on the main examination day.”
