Sound education must produce balanced individual, says BHC Principal

The College Administrator, Ms Carmen Latty said since the college is dealing with teenagers, staffs are well trained and familiar with child protection law and safeguarding of children.

Amidst the challenges facing the contemporary youths and the society, Principal, Bridge House College (BHC), a sixth form college in Ikoyi, Lagos, Mrs. Uche Emeanu, has stressed the need for students to be exposed to sound learning that would guarantee a balanced individual upon completion of their schooling.

Speaking with reporters after a tour of its facility recently, Emeanu said a child who passed through an educational institution, should be able to realise himself, his potential and how to contribute his quota to the needs of the society, otherwise such a child has not received sound education.

She said it was in realisation of this lacuna that the college was established 13 years ago, to provide students with solid academic bridge to higher education, which would enable them become total and balanced individual upon completion of their course of study.

She said, “BHC is an accredited centre with the British council to conduct Cambridge examinations, accelerated A-level programme and University Foundation programme, among others. We are indisputably the foremost sixth form college in Nigeria, and we have credible partners across the world. Our mission is to produce a total child, an international being, who is independent and can contribute to the needs of the society. That is the purpose of education.”

“Education should be sound and able to equip students with relevant hard and soft skills. That is why our teaching and non-teaching staff are adequately trained and positioned to cater to the social, psychological and emotional well being of students. So far our products are in top managerial positions contributing their quota to national growth.”

The College Administrator, Ms Carmen Latty said since the college is dealing with teenagers, staffs are well trained and familiar with child protection law and safeguarding of children.

“With the existence of world-class facilities and quality academic and administrative staff body, we teach and motivate our students to achieve high grades in their examinations to enable them gain admission into the best universities of their choice. When students are well trained and nurtured, they become balanced individuals, and this in turn makes the society safer and saner,” she said.
