Cristiano Ronaldo: Five reasons why he can make Man Utd great again

I had previously written about why I felt that Real Madrid should never let go of Cristiano Ronaldo and I stated out my points clearly. Madrid President, Florentino Perez was supposed to speak with the player and confirm or deny the rumours about his purported desire to leave Madrid and Spain, however, Perez has come out to say that he has not yet spoken with the Portuguese but will do so after the Confederations Cup.

This development has done little to squash the rumours still swirling around and instead has added more fuel to the fire. If Ronaldo does leave Madrid this summer his most likely destination will be a return to Old Trafford and Manchester United according to reports making the rounds.

This scenario is one that a lot of Manchester United fans have been hoping and praying for and it will be the realization of a dream if it happens. The second coming of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester will bring a lot of things to this current Manchester United side and below are five reasons why I think it will make the club great again if it happens.

FEAR FACTOR
One major thing that Manchester united has lost since the retirement of the great Sir Alex Ferguson has been the fear factor the team used to have. Most opposing sides at Old Trafford already felt defeated before the blast of the whistle in times past and damage limitation was their main aim. The arrival of Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic brought back a bit of the fear factor; however, if Cristiano Ronaldo makes a return to the club he will most certainly increase that losing feeling in potential opponents when they come up against Manchester United and this will help the club on its way to regaining some of its lost glory.

INSPIRATION
This present Manchester United team boasts of a lot of young talents and potential world beaters like Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Josh Harrop and Angel Gomez. The return of Ronaldo to Old Trafford will definitely inspire these youngsters to go on and fulfill their potentials. Training daily with a player as decorated as him and seeing him turn it up on matchdays will only serve to make them want to be as great as the Portuguese and that in turn will benefit Manchester United now and in the long run.

WINNING MENTALITY/WORK RATE
Cristiano Ronaldo won a three EPL titles, a League Cup, a UCL title and the Club World Cup in his last three years at Manchester United, that’s more than Manchester United have won in the last four years. Since then, he has added a ton of titles and has personally won more than the club in the past four years. The man mostly wins and wants to keep winning and will do his best to bring that mentality to Manchester united if he makes a return to the club. He backs up his desire for success with an unbelievable work rate which mostly gives him and his teams the needed results

COMPETITIVENESS
For a player that has achieved so much already and is arguably the greatest player in the history of the game, his desire to strive for more and keep on breaking records is unrivalled. He was runner up to Lionel Messi in the Ballon D’or votes for four consecutive years and kept on striving to match the Argentine and baring any surprise he will match Messi’s total tally of five when the award will be handed out this year. That level of competitiveness is what he will be bringing with him to Manchester United if he returns and that will automatically make the team more competitive.

GOALS
Manchester united have been dire in front of goal in recent seasons, in fact, in the 2015/2016 season, the team scored a total of 49 goals in the league, while Ronaldo scored 48 league goals in the previous season for Real Madrid. Since he left Manchester United, Ronaldo has scored more goals than games played for Real Madrid with 407 goals in 394 appearances, becoming the record goal scorer for the team in the process. He will be bringing his goals with him to Manchester and that will help the club in its quest to regain its position as one of the top teams in the world. Ronaldo scored 118 goals in his first spell at Manchester United and the lure of breaking Wayne Rooney’s club record of 253 goals and becoming the greatest goal scorer at two of Europe’s heavyweights will only serve to inspire him to plunder in the goals for the Manchester United.
