The Delta State government said it has uncovered no fewer than 50 fake academic certificates during the ongoing verification exercise of civil servants in the state.
Describing them as “questionable certificates,” the government noted that they belonged to some of the civil servants who allegedly forged their primary school and degree certificates, while also some others have been working without certificates.
Chairman of the state Civil Service Commission Chairman, Mrs. Patience Okwuofu told journalists that genuine certificates would lead to improved output in the state civil service, describing those with questionable certificates as fraudulent and assured that they will face the wrath of the law.
Stressing the need to authenticate their certificates, Okwuofu who also is Chairman of the verification exercise, regretted that some civil servants involved themselves in forgery.
Noting that civil servants with forged certificates would not be able to carry out their responsibilities effectively, she, however, commended the committee for the verification exercise.
She assured that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa would keep to his electioneering promises to the people of Delta, especially in providing the dividends of democracy.
Meanwhile, the Police Area Commander of Ughelli Division, ASP Adepoju Ilori, yesterday charged parents, vigilante groups and members of the public to partner with the Police to stamp out criminals in their communities.
Ilori, who spoke to journalists at Isiokolo, however, urged the vigilante groups to co-operate with the force by arresting and handling over criminals to the police instead of creating a cell for themselves where they torture arrested criminals.
