After weeks of soccer battles, Amazing Boys of Ikoyi will trade tackles with Oluyole Babes of Ayobo in the final of the Fifth MRS Kid Cup on May 31 at the Campos Mini Stadium, Victoria Island. In the Girls category, Sunrise United of Ketu will face Shade Princess of Ikorodu.
Speaking at the unveiling of the trophies for the event in Lagos, the Managing Director of MRS Oil Nigeria PLC, Mr. Andrew Gbodume said the company had always worked to be recognized as a corporate citizen in every country it operates.
He revealed that MRS chose soccer as a way of developing Nigerian youths, adding that they would continue to give both morale and financial assistance to those in sports to excel in their chosen career.
The Director, Public Affairs of MRS Holdings, Otunba Jubril, a die-hard Arsenal fan, said the company was committed to the people both locally and internationally, adding, “the MRS Kids Cup is part of our corporate social responsibility. MRS believes the competition will make life better for the younger ones and also teach them how to celebrate victory and accept defeat.”
He revealed that 64 male and female teams have participated in the MRS Kids Cup since May 12, adding that the competition started in 2013 as company’s contribution to sports development.
The winning team will have cash prizes and support for their education, while other teams will also be given consolation prizes for participating, he added.
The event rounded up with the official presentation of trophies by the M.D., MRS holdings to the Chairman of the National Youth Soccer Association, Rev. Paul Freeman.
