It was fun and thrills at the weekend as Golden Bunch School, Yaba, honoured fathers of the students in a novelty football match to commemorate this year’s Fathers’ Day at St. Finbarr’s College Sports Field, Akoka, Lagos.
The event organised by the school in collaboration with the mothers of the students, was to create a bond between the children and their fathers and also to honour the fathers who giving so much to their children but hardly have time to spend with their wards while at work.
In the novelty match, the fathers were divided into two groups made up of the Red and the Yellow bibs. At the end of the encounter, parents on Red bib triumphed 5-4 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 at regulation time.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of the school, Mrs. Modupe Ogundimu, said the event was designed for bonding between the students and their fathers.
“This is an activity we lined up to celebrate the fathers of our students, as the world marks the Fathers Day. As you aware that it is not easy to have them around. We had to look for a place of interest, something that will actually draw them to participate in this event. We found out that about 90 per cent of them love football and that was why we decided to arrange a novelty football for them.
“This is not only just for the fun of it, but to encourage them to bond with their children. As you can see we have them here: the mothers, children and fathers coming together for this occasion. Our fathers are highly honoured and we want to show them that we love them. It is also an opportunity for them to be physically fit as they engaged themselves in the football match that we organised for them,” she said.
